September 2018, We bring you artwork from a can and brewery in the Silver State. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share this “royal flush” artwork from the Reno Brewing Company (RBC).
Opening in 1903 as the fourth brewery in the city, RBC quickly became the largest and most successful in the area. Combining the expertise of master German brewer Jacob Hook with fellow Germans John Maurer and Peter Dohr, the trio built a successful brewing business that persisted through prohibition by manufacturing near beer and a variety of non alcoholic carbonated beverages.
Unlike many other breweries, RBC concentrated its efforts on three mainstay brews: Sierra Beer, Malt Rose and Royal Flush Lager. The company promoted its products as healthy and even medically beneficial! In the 1930s, RBC added One Sound State to its menu, and when prohibition was repealed in 1933, the demand soared higher than ever.
In 1957, with the domination of large breweries such as Anheuser Busch and after a poor financial arrangement, RBC ceased operations. The buildings were demolished two years later, but its bottling plant of 1940 still stands today.
